Bio
Jacklyn Kumlien

NAME:
Jacklyn Kumlien

What got you into barefooting?
My brother was barefooting, and I got stuck going to his tournaments. I got bored sometimes, and my dad told me it would not be boring if I joined in. I did, and now I?m hooked!! Plus I can not let Jamie think he?s better than me.

How did you lean to barefoot?
Off of a boom one day on a dare from my brother.

Who was your first barefoot instructor?
Marty Walsh of SkiH2o

Tell us about your first tournament.
It was really exciting and I met a great boat driver Mike Shanke, the Shankster. Everyone was cheering and it made me feel special, like a family.

How did you feel the first time you barefooted?
Surprised, then I looked down and I face planted.

Why do you continue to barefoot?
It is fun and exciting. I am able to met new people and hang out with my friends.

Who has inspired you in this sport?
My Big Brother Jamie, whatever he can do I can do better.

What are your barefooting goals?
They change every year. This year I want to get better at the back barefooting tricks.

Have you held any records?
Girls 2 tricks which was beaten a short time later in the same tournament.

Have you won any tournaments?
I have won Wisconsin state, for the past two years, and The Midwest Regional this year

What skiers have you enjoyed watching and why?
I enjoy watching everyone while they are trying to reach their personal best (pb). Most of all I love watching my little brother, Michael, trying to barefoot.

How often do you train/ski?
It is hard in the Midwest, with winter and all, but during the summer I get out almost everyday.

Do you have a nickname and how did you get it?
Red, because of my red hair.

Tell us about your family.
I am the middle child and only girl in my family. My mother and father are always there to support me. My brothers are well brothers, most days it looks like we don?t get along, but we do.

What other activities do you participate in?
I am a member of the Rock Aqua Jays, climb pyramids, swivel ski, doubles, and barefoot. I also take dance lessons and singing lessons during the winter. In the fall and spring I run cross country, and track.

What do you do for a living?
I am only 11 but my parents do have chores for me. They say it is my way of contributing to the house. We can only ski when the chores are done.

How did the 2006 barefoot season go for you?
It was a great year. I was able to back deep. This helped me to accomplish my goals and reach new personal bests for me.

What can we expect from you in 2007.
I want to continue to work on my back tricks, and wake crosses. I want step off of my swivel ski so I can combine the two parts of skiing that I really love.

Do you have a motto?
?Just Smile and Waive Boys!?
